SA security guard's new wearable tech

Local tech company, Jasco, understands how the world is changing, and they have tried to adapt themselves to meet current and future needs, that’s why they are launching an internet connected jacket in the South Africa market.

So, it looks like local security guards could be watched closely while they are on the job. The internet connected jacket has some great features like an image or video surveillance device strapped with GPS and mobile communication features. Sounds pretty high tech for a jacket!

But why do security guards need these fancy jackets? Well, the technology is expected to really help security companies, like to better monitor guards to make sure they stick to their schedules. The technology can also help in emergency situations as the software installed in control centres also tracks the security guards movements and their image or video feed.

Jasco’s business development manager said that the internet connected jacket is a real combination of technology, and it’s the development of the full feature tech that provides benefits to guarding companies.

What about the features on the jacket? The GPS antenna is positioned in the jacket’s shoulder pad, while the transmitter and battery sit in the front pouches. All components on the jacket are quite small and low power.

Another cool feature on the jacket is the panic button which is on the inside of the vest, while a camera is mounted high in a specialised pouch. The batteries are great too, as they last for 24 hours and can be swapped for new ones.

Prices for the jackets will vary depending on orders, some companies may want live image feeds rather than streaming a video – this all affects the costs. However, the technology could cost around R1,500 for each security guard per month!
