How to Avoid Easter-Themed Online Scams this Weekend!
Easter is here, which means you’re going to be online
searching for tasty Easter recipes, activities and last-minute travel deals.
This is why it is so important to be extra careful online this weekend –
cybercriminals are also planning to make Easter a big important holiday!
Just like the other holidays – Valentine’s Day, Christmas,
New Years – Easter is the time for family, but also the time for a lot of
online scams.
Be on the lookout for things like fake online coupons and
deals in your inbox, clicking on these could lead you to fraudulent websites
that steal your personal information.
Here’s what you can do to be safe this Easter...
Avoid random emails. Criminals like you trick you by
promising something that is too good to be true, like amazing coupon deals and
vouchers, these won’t bring anything but trouble. So, never open attachments or
click on links in emails unless you know who they’re from.
Be careful what you Google. A lot of the time when there is
a big holiday coming up, cybercriminals like to make corrupt web pages that are
related to popular search terms. Be careful when you Google “Easter Egg ideas”
you could be lead to a malicious website. Be sure to check the address first to
see if it is correct – tiny typos are signs that it may be a harmful site.
Watch your wallet. Cybercriminals are clever, they’ll create
fake donation websites to take advantage of your charitable side and trick you
into donating money to a phony cause.
Never ever give out your personal information, such as your
PIN code, phone number, card number or ID! Be aware and avoid becoming the
victim of a cybercrime this Easter!
