What to do when your PC shows no signs of power
Before you start to panic that all your
precious data is gone forever, keep in mind when your PC won’t turn on it
usually isn’t your hard drive that is causing the problem.
In other words, all your files, music,
documents, images, videos, movies, etc. are probably still safe and sound but
they’re just not accessible at the moment.
Take a deep breath, keep calm and try these
simple steps if your PC will not turn on and shows no signs of power…
It’s
important to note that you might not see a light on the back of your PC
depending on the type of power supply you have and the cause of the problem.
This also applies when it comes to the charger you are using for your tablet or
laptop.
1.
Before you start a long troubleshooting
process, make sure your PC was actually turned on!
2.
Check if the power cable is
disconnected.
3.
Plug your laptop, tablet or
desktop directly into the wall if it’s not plugged in already.
4.
Do a test to see if power is
actually being provided from the wall plug.
5.
If you’re using a desktop PC,
verify that the power supply voltage switch is set correctly.
6.
Remove the battery from your
laptop and try using the AC power only.
7.
Inspect your power cable to see
if there is any damage.
8.
Replace the charging cable or
the power cable if you’re using a desktop PC.
9.
If your computer is a few years
old, replace the CMOS battery.
10.
If you’re using a desktop, make
sure the power switch is connected to the motherboard.
11.
Replace your motherboard if you’re
using a desktop.
Among the many ways that a computer
won't turn on, a complete loss of power is rarely the worst case scenario.
There is the chance that your PC isn't receiving power because of a serious
issue, but it's unlikely.
