Holy Moley! It’s the World’s First Robotic Kitchen

You get in from a long day at work, there's no fresh food in the fridge and you can't bring yourself to order your fourth takeaway of the week. Wouldn’t it be great to have your own personal chef waiting to make you any meal you like?

Well, soon enough, that could be a reality with the robotic kitchen!

Moley Robotics is set to release the world’s first robotic kitchen in 2017. Cooking will be as easy as pulling up a recipe, sitting back and watching two articulated robot arms do all the work.

Let’s see how the cooking technology works:

 - The kitchen will be complete with a pair of robot arms, oven, a shelf for food and utensils, and a touch screen to choose recipes.

- Users can operate the kitchen with a Smartphone or the touch screen. Simply pull up the desired recipe and have the Moley robot do the rest.

But how does the robot know how to cook these recipes?

- Moley knows because a chef prepared it wearing special gloves while being filmed by 3D motion capture technology. In doing so, the robot knows exactly how what actions to take to cook the recipe exactly like the human first demonstrated it.

- This means that the robotic hands will even have natural pauses while cooking because it replicates everything done by the chef. BBC MasterChef winner, Tim Anderson was summoned by Moley to share his culinary acumen with the robot by demonstrating how to prepare crab bisque.

"To be honest, I didn't think this was possible. I chose crab bisque as a dish because it's a real challenge for human chef to make well, never mind a machine. Having seen - and tasted - the results for myself, I am stunned. This is the beginning of something really significant: a whole new opportunity for producing good food and for people to explore the world's cuisines. It's very exciting," remarked Anderson.
