Keep these Rooms in your Home Tech-Free!
There is a simple way to find the balance
between smartphone addiction and living completely off the grid. All you have to
do is declare that some rooms in your home are tech-free zones. The main catch
though is that ALL your family members have to abide by the rules, this
includes mom and dad who just need to take a quick call at the table during
dinner time.
Here are the best rooms to keep completely
tech-free…
KITCHEN. For many, the kitchen is the heart
of the home. In order to live a healthier, happier and more positive life it is
vital to have family meals, whether it is breakfast, lunch or dinner, together
without any tech. Something as simple as laughing over a plate of lasagne with
your loved ones can really help with lowering depressing and eating disorders
as well as improve vocab and academic performance.
BEDROOM. Did you know that sleeping with
your smartphone can undermine cognitive functioning, mental health and even
increase the chance of obesity? Even though most adults do this, teens are also
known to wake up in the night and use their phones. There are many, many
studies showing that those who sleep close to their phones do not sleep well
and do not sleep as long. Plus tech in the bedroom can also decrease the
chances of romance!
CAR. It’s great if you want to listen to
audiobooks on your trip to the mall or force your kids to listen to your
favourite golden oldies, but the car can also be a great place to connect with
those you love. Some say that kids are more likely to open up to you if you are
concentrating on driving and not staring into their souls. Also, be sure to show
them that it is never a good idea to look at your phone while you are in the driver’s
seat!
BATHROOM. Three out for four people take
their phone with them into the bathroom, whether they want to watch YouTube
videos, listen to music or play a game or two, the most important part is that
the majority of people do not clean their phones afterward. If you take your phone with you into the bathroom, your phone’s screen can carry ten times more
bacteria than your toilet seat!
Set boundaries. Keep these zones in your
home tech-free and you as well as your family will appreciate it now and later
on in life!
