Windows 10 new unlock features!
We've all heard a lot
about Windows 10, and we've all learnt a lot too. But this feature is one of
the most exciting ones yet. It seems you’ll be able to unlock your computer by
scanning your finger print, or even your eyeball. Bye, bye passwords!
The reason for this
state-of-the-art unlocking method, is the fact that Windows 10 will now support
the next version of the Fast Identification Online (FIDO) spec. This will help
third-party biometric readers to play nice with laptops, tablets, desktops and
smartphones.
Unlike the current
fingerprint scanning tech that you may be using, FIDO does away with passwords
all together to provide more secure authentication. Microsoft went on the say
that moving beyond the password is one of the top priorities for them.
Microsoft is confident
that FIDO will transform the industry, it has the support of major companies
such as Google, Bank of America and PayPal, and it is meant to lay the
groundwork for a widespread transition. So pretty soon we could all be
unlocking with our eyes and fingerprints and passwords will become a thing of
the past.
FIDO has actually already
been implemented in the Windows 10 technical preview, which is available now to
developers. There’s no word on when it will reach us!
Windows 10 is supposed
to see daylight in the fall of 2015, even as early as June. So until then,
Microsoft has promised to improve collaboration with FIDO partners to make the
upcoming operating system based more on localized authentication systems and
less on passwords.
Are you ready to leave
passwords behind? What are your thoughts?
