Windows 10 won’t be
launching for a while, but we already know a lot about Microsoft’s cool new
operating system. From the Xbox app for Windows and the HoloLens to Cortana for
desktop, the new platform will offer you a wide variety of new features. These
are the top 7 Windows 10 features:
The biggest addition to
Windows 10, which came as quite a surprise is the reality headset called the
HoloLens.
The software which is built into Windows 10, allows developers to create
virtual 3D environments. In the HoloLens video we see it being used for totally
immersive gaming, architects, interior designers, and so much more!
As expected
Cortana, the
virtual assistant is a big part of Windows 10. Cortana is able to learn about
users over time, she then brings together everything she knows about them to
deliver reminders and suggestions in the Calendar, taskbar and the new Spartan
browser. Because she is constantly connected to and trawling the internet, she
can then give you extra information on web pages, how useful this will be
remains to be seen.
Microsoft wants to make it
easier to switch modes with hybrid laptop laptop-tablet devices. With Continuum, the system
will detect is you've plugged in a keyboard or mouse and switch modes for more
convenient interaction, if you remove the keyboard/mouse a notification will
then pop up and ask you if you want to activate tablet mode. Dock your tablet
into the keyboard again and you will receive the same prompt asking if you want
to exit Tablet mode.
Forget about
Internet Explorer, the long-disliked browser will be replaced by the new Spartan
Browser. The new browser allows users to save a page at just the click of a button;
it then can be stored for reading later on any device. Some of the other
features include PDF support and a new note taking feature. Even better the
Spartan Browser will feature Cortana support within the browser, so she can
pull information from the sites you’re on to do things like navigate to a
restaurant or pull up an upcoming flight time without having to go into your
email.
Microsoft has finally brought
back the Start Menu. Now when you click on the Start button at the bottom of
the screen, you get two panels side by side, with the left column showing
pinned, recently and most-used apps. You also get a power button at the top for
options such as Hibernate, Standby and Shutdown and also an all apps option. The
right column features a selection of live tiles that you can customize, resize
and organise.
To make the transition across
devices easier, Microsoft is introducing a new category of software called
Universal Apps, they use the same code, but adapt their interface to the device
you are using. Microsoft is bundling its own set of Universal Apps with the new
operating system, including Photos, Videos, Music, Maps, People & Messaging
and Mail & Calender – they all function the same way on your tablet, phone
or PC.
You will soon be able to play
any
Xbox One game on your PC or tablet with the amazing Xbox app for Windows
10. The new operating system will support Xbox game streaming with faster speed
and graphic performance. The app will let you record, edit and share with
friends on the Game DVR feature. You will also be able to join your friends in
games across Windows 10 or the Xbox platforms and see your friend’s activity
with
Xbox Live.
In my opinion these 7
features are some of the best additions to the new Windows 10 operating
system. There will be plenty more impressive features to be announced as
Windows 10 comes closer and closer to being released, but for now these 7 are
by far the most impressive.
