You can now find Facebook posts by keyword!

Do you remember that funny Facebook post one of your friends shared a few months ago? Well, forget about spending hours searching for a needle in a haystack, because now you actually have a shot at finding it again!

Facebook is finally getting serious about search; they've updated it for the desktop version of its website and its iPhone app, now it will be easier for you to find specific posts shared by your friends.

Tom Stocky (Facebook’s vice president of search) wrote on the company’s blog recently:  “You've told us the most important thing is being able to find posts you've seen before, and now you can,”

So the product manager says that Facebook’s personalized search is focused mainly on helping people rediscover their thoughts, memories and experiences that they've seen in the Facebook feed. Facebook is in fact challenging Google when searching for random keywords like “doctor” and “burgers” because the results could complete with Google results. Meanwhile a search for “Michael Brown” or “traffic news” could provide a feed of recent posts or news articles by friends, which is similar to twitter.

Facebook is making sure that mobile search is a company priority and a search priority; they know it’s important for people to have a stronger, better and faster mobile search! Not only that, but people share what makes us human on Facebook, like photos, articles and memories – which is really powerful.

It’s mostly just a way to find things that you might have seen on Facebook that you want to check out again, and it feels much more like searching on Google than Graph Search, which was way too complex. The typical person on Facebook, using Graph Search will find that it is just too much work to find some simple information!

As of yesterday the new search features are available on your desktop and it should show up in an updated iOS app soon! So, forget about struggling to find that long lost post about your best friend’s wedding, because it going to be so much simpler now.
