WiFi the new way with Google’s OnHub
Does your finicky WiFi
router irritate you constantly? Well, Google has the answer to your WiFi
problems…
There have probably
been plenty of times when you have to reset your modem or router just to get it
working again… and even then you might not get a consistent signal in all the
areas of your house. Google’s new WiFi router called OnHub promises to end your
WiFi problems for good.
Google partnered with
TP-LINK and designed OnHub to have a unique design and smart software that
keeps working in the background, keeping your network at peak performance.
The OnHub can also
scan available airwaves to look for the best one without congestion; you can
even give it priority over apps that are running in the background on your
smartphone.
In terms of the
design, OnHub doesn’t look like any router you’ve seen before. It’s given up
the usual antennas, wires and blinking lights and replaced them with a large
cylinder shape with just one light at the top.
There are benefits in
this design. Many people keep their unsightly routers hidden away under their
desks or behind their TVs where they don’t work as well. If the router is more
pleasing to the eye, people will be more likely to keep it out in the open. It’s
a win-win situation.
Within the OnHub there
are 13 antennas, 12 for signal and the one for checking congestion in the area.
Replacing your old
router’s blinking lights is an app called Google On, which will help you set up
and manage your WiFi network. OnHub will find your phone using audio the first
time you set it up. The app will save your password, so you can send it to your
friends or guests instead of always having to look for that crumpled piece of
paper with your password on.
While the OnHub device
sounds amazing, it won’t be cheap! So, if you are happy with your WiFi router
at home, you probably don’t need this. It seems like it would be best for those
who live in larger homes with many connected devices.
