Say hello to Podo – The selfie stick slayer!
Selfie sticks are the
plague of our time, thankfully there’s an alternative. It’s called Podo and it's a Kickstarter project that could replace selfie sticks all together! This handy little device is a
wireless sticky camera that serves as an on-the-go photo booth. Instead of
taking pictures yourself, with a selfie stick or asking a stranger, you’ll be
able to stick the camera to a flat surface and trigger the shot with your
phone!
The revolutionary
thing about the Podo is the sticky surface on the back of the camera. It’s not
tape or glue, so it doesn't get less sticky over time. Instead it’s a special
pad covered with tiny suction cups, so you’ll be able to attach it to pretty
much any solid and flat surface.
If the sticky surface ever
gets dirty or dusty, just wash it and it’ll be full sticky again. There’s also
a powerful magnet hidden behind the suction surface, to help stick it to metal
surfaces or simply if it needs a better hold.
The rotating flap on
the back lets you protect the sticky surface when the camera isn't in use, not
only that but it allows you to capture different angles and get exactly the
right shot.
Once you have stuck
your camera to a surface and it is secured to the spot you want it to be, you
can control it through Bluetooth using a special app on your phone. Frame your
shot perfectly using live view and then snap a picture when you’re happy with
it. The image will be automatically transferred to your phone’s gallery in a
matter of seconds, from there you can edit, share or delete them as you see
fit.
But what are the specs
like? Well, the Podo has an 8-megapixel camera, 720p video recording, a
rechargeable Li-ion battery, an accelerometer and indicator LEDs on the front
that double as a flash. There are also features for double exposure, burst
mode, time-lapse sequences, video recording and GIF creation.
The Podo generally
looks like a lot of fun, it comes in red, blue and black and it’s so much
easier than having to hold up a big, clunky monopod to take a picture!
