How to Stay Safe When you’re Working on your PC
Not only is repairing your PC a lot of fun –
for some people – but it can really save you time and money. BUT only if you
know what you’re doing!
Keep in mind that you have to know what you’re
doing as well as stay safe when you’re working on your PC… Here’s how.
ALWAYS remember to turn the power off – Do not
even think about opening your PC box without turning the power off, if you’re
not sure, check to see if there are any lights still on. When working on a
laptop, make sure you remove the battery and disconnect the power before you
start taking anything a part.
Unplug for safety – To be extra precautious,
it is always best to completely unplug your PC at the wall!
Beware of smoke and smells – Should you
ever see smoke or smell anything strange coming from your PC, STOP what you’re
doing right away, UNPLUG your computer and allow it to COOL for a few minutes.
If you know which part of your PC was causing the smell / smoke, remove it and
replace it as soon as you can.
Take off your jewellery – A great way to
get electrocuted is to work on your PC while wearing any metal rings, bracelets
or watches. Always be sure to remove anything from your hands that may cause
conduction BEFORE you even start working on your computer.
Only work on your PC if you know what you’re
doing – If you have no idea what you’re doing when it comes to fixing or
modifying your PC, then don’t even try! You could end up damaging your computer
and possibly hurting yourself in the process. Rather leave it to the
professionals! Contact The Computer Guyz in Cape Town or Centurion for
