This man built a life-like robot that looks like a real movie star!
A 42 year old designer
in Hong Kong has fulfilled his childhood dream of one day building a humanoid
robot.
However, this is not
just any robot, but a female humanoid robot that looks a lot like the Hollywood
actress – Scarlett Johansson! Kinda creepy, right?
Apparently the
designer, Ricky Ma, has been obsessed with animation and robots since he was a little
kid. Ricky reportedly spent about $50 000 and a year and a half creating the
lookalike robot, which he calls “Mark 1.”
The robot is made from
3D-printed parts and life-like silicone skin; it can even display animated
facial expressions such as smiling and winking. “Mark 1” (or Scarlett) can also
move her arms and legs and responds to Ricky when he gives her a compliment. It’s
getting creepier by the second!
Ricky says that his
programming skills are self-taught. Although he encountered many obstacles
while building the robot (probably deciding which Hollywood actress to
replicate) he says that he has no regrets, especially with the end result.
We wonder what the
real Scarlett Johansson would say about her twin-bot, she’d probably be more creeped
out than flattered.
