This VR headset looks like a regular pair of sunglasses
VR headsets are not
particularly attractive. They’re chunky and kind-of look like ski mask goggles
with a screen and lenses that strap to your head.
But what if there was
a VR headset that wasn’t so big and ugly? The Chinese company Dlodlo has recently
introduced its V One VR headset, which has been designed to look like a regular
pair of sunglasses!
The stylish V One
headset is arguably the lightest VR headset around. Weighing only about 80
grams, it is even lighter than LG’s 360 VR, which weighs in at around 114
grams. Dlodlo’s lenses are also only 16mm thick.
For such a regular looking
VR headset, the specs are pretty powerful:
- 1600 pixels per inch
for each eye
- 100 degree field of
view
- 10ms latency
- 9-axis sensor for
head-tracking
Similar to LG’s 360 VR
headset, the V One connects to an external processing unit. LG’s VR headset
connects to the LG G5 via a USB-C cable. The V Once connects to the company’s
D-BOX processing box, which means the headset will have its own API and app
store for downloading VR content.
There is no word on
the pricing or when the V Once will be releases, but if the company can really
deliver on the form factor without a lot of downsides, then VR could finally
overcome its nerdy stigma!
