Facebook Marketplace: Buy and Sell with your Community
Over the years more people have been using Facebook to
connect in another way – buying and selling with each other. It started in
Facebook groups and has grown substantially in recent years. More than 450 million
people visit buy and sell groups each month.
Now, Facebook has decided to take on Etsy and Ebay by
developing a new feature/tool that you can use to buy and sell goods. Say hello
to Facebook Marketplace.
Marketplace is described as a convenient destination to
discover, buy and sell items with people in your community. You can even use it
to find a new home!
Here’s all you need to know about Facebook Marketplace...
Where can I find it?
Simply tap on the shop icon at the bottom of the Facebook app.
How can I browse
items for sale?
Once you open marketplace it will show photos of items that
people near you have listed for sale. Enter a keyword if you are looking for
something specific; otherwise filter your search by location, category or
price.
How can I buy items?
When you find something that you want to buy, tap on the
image to see more details from the seller. Once you decide you want it, send
the seller a direct message and make an offer. Facebook does not facilitate the
payment, so you and the seller can work out the details.
How do I sell something?
To post something for sale in marketplace, take a photo of
your item, enter the product name, description, price and category and then
confirm your location.
How can I keep track?
To keep track of all your current and past transactions,
visit the Your Items section in the Marketplace main screen. From there you can
view your saved items, products you’ve posted, transaction and messages.
Over the new few days, Marketplace will be rolling out in
the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand (only to people over the age of 18years).
Additional countries will soon follow, as well as Marketplace for your desktop.
