How a Woman Resurrected her Best Friend using Artificial Intelligence
When Eugenia Kuyda’s best friend died, she resurrected his
digital consciousness using artificial intelligence. As a skilled Russian programmer
and entrepreneur, she used the creation of her AI startup, Luka and fed in all
the digital conversations and chats with Roman Mazurenko into a neural network.
The result? An AI-powered born again chatbot!
Losing someone close can leave the deepest scar you gather
in your life. It can really change a person. The grief from death lingers for a
long time and it can keep coming back to remind you of that persons absence.
But, what if you had a chance to talk to them again? It is a
complicated question. Some people might welcome this idea with open arms, but
others might not agree with it and argue about the increasing interference of
technology in our lives.
Eugenia Kuyda thinks that the memorial bots are the future.
In a beautifully written piece on Kuyda and Roman’s story of friendship, loss
and accomplishment, she explains how she brought her best friend back to life
using a neural network – Read it here...
She did this by gathering Roman’s text messages and chats
from all his friends and used her company to keep his digital consciousness alive.
The end result is pretty amazing. You can download the Luka
app from the App store and talk to Roman’s digital avatar – you can even talk
to Prince!
Luka is described as a new messenger with an AI-powered
chatbot. They help you find things like GIFs, funny videos and even make plans
and have fun.
While some may question this use of technology to bring
someone back to life, Roman’s tearful mom is actually thankful for the creation
of Roman’s AI.
“There was a lot I didn’t know about my child. But now that
I can read about what he thought about different subjects, I’m getting to know
him more. This gives the illusion that he’s here now.”
What do you think of this use of technology and AI?
