This Personal Assistant Gadget is also a Cat!
Ever wanted to have a cat, but didn’t want to deal with the
litterbox mess or the other responsibilities of being a pet owner? What about
having a cat that talks back?
KiQ is a snarky,
feline, personal assistant that connects with your smartphone and will alert
you to incoming messages, calls, reminders, and even tell you jokes that you
can personalize.
The gadget, which is currently raising money on Kickstarter,
gets the jokes from comedy writers and is also supposed to react to certain
gestures while telling jokes. If you pet KiQ, he’ll register that you liked a
joke. If you don’t enjoy one, you can smack him, just like with a real cat!
(Note: don’t smack a real cat).
According to their Kickstarter page, KiQ can sense when
you’re in range, using that as a cue to activate. He’ll also stay quiet if you
put him on his side, sort of like forcing a cat to go to sleep. (Note: don’t
force a cat to go to sleep).
Okay, so KiQ isn’t exactly like a real cat at all. But you
can pet him, and instead of walking around and sleeping on your keyboard, he’ll
actually try and help you throughout the day.
KiQ does have some value in the work place, but mostly it’s
promised to be a fun, smart toy. The company wanted to create something like
Siri, but with a sense of humour.
“We spent months researching existing personal assistant
technologies and found them all to be lacking in…what’s the word? Oh
yes–personality,” the company wrote on the Kickstarter page.
“We wanted a personal assistant who will keep us organized
and on schedule but who can also be fun and irreverent. Plus we’re allergic to
real cats.”
Sounds like good enough of a reason to me. Cats are
wonderful. The only problem is that they don’t have a sense of humour.
