Facebook at Work allows you to be Facebooking the ENTIRE day

This week Facebook finally launched their long-rumoured version of the social network – Facebook at Work. This new app is pretty much like the regular Facebook except you use it to connect to your colleagues and even better it is ad-free and has a different colour scheme, which means when your boss looks over your shoulder he’ll know that you’re on Facebook, but still “working”.

So Facebook at Work allows you to be on Facebook almost permanently, basically that’s what you do anyway – spend all your time on Facebook. The new app allows you to set up a private network that works just like Facebook, but only people in your company can see it, so instead of all your friends having to see the useless pictures of your lunch and new puppy, your coworkers can!

Facebook at Work is meant to efficiently connect employees using Facebook tools, including many that we’re likely already using, such as News Feed , Groups, messages and events. One of the key features is the Groups function, which Facebook hopes could replace the over-flowing email inboxes that you have for your work account.

If Facebook can actually succeed in making a tool that can help people get things done at the office, then the company has found a brilliant new way to keep your eyes glued to the screen, especially if you’re always worried about minimizing that window.  Whether you are at home or at work, Facebook will make money the more hours you spend on the site.

It’s a great idea, but at the same time it seems so silly, if I wanted to use Facebook for work, you know what I would use? Facebook. There’s also the issue of the huge similarity between the apps, it may get people into trouble, what if you accidentally post about getting completely wasted over the weekend on the wrong Facebook?

But if you are excited to spend your whole working day on Facebook, don’t get your hopes up just yet; for now Facebook at Work is only available for a handful of partners who will be testing it, the full-blown launch will be later this year.
