Clear app helps clean up your social media act

Have you ever scrolled back on your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram feed and felt mortified? Or have you tried to sift through all your years of posts manually to try and delete the embarrassing ones? A new app may be able to help you before your old tweets or posts come back to haunt you.

There is a brand new app called Clear and it’s here to make sure you don’t have to frantically scramble through all your social media posts when you apple for a new job!

Clear connects with your Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts and analyse all your history, it then flags all your posts that have inappropriate content. Clear uses a combination of algorithms and IBM’s supercomputer Watson to filter material; some posts that may be flagged will contain curse words or sexually or racially charged words. Clear will also go through your social media profiles and give you a score on the potential liability of your social media presence.

It is still up to you as the user to review and delete all the offensive content, but the app simplifies the process for you and gives you shortcuts.

Of course, text updates aren't the only harmful posts, photos and videos can also get you into trouble. Clear is still in the developing stages, so identifying photos is still going to be added somewhere along the road, along with other social media networks. The app currently has a waiting list of more than 2,500 people!

The founder of the Clear app, Ethan Czahor, created the app when he lost his job because of offensive tweets that he had posted many years ago after graduating college. His Twitter feed was discovered and spun completely out of context and he lost his job. He decided to create Clear to make sure situations like his never happen to anyone ever again.

In the meantime, while you wait for Clear, you can use the recently improved search features from Facebook and Twitter – so you can easily look for potentially embarrassing posts from your past yourself.
