Welcome to Com.google – the backwards internet!
Google’s new Pac-Man
on Google Maps is not a late April Fools’ prank and neither is Com.google! So,
let’s see what Mountain View’s jokers have been up to…
Com.google basically
flips everything around. Everything is reversed, from the page title that says “Elgoog”
to the logo and buttons to the links on the bottom of the page. Even when you
click inside the search box, the cursor will pop up on the ride hand side!
Search suggestions still appear as you type, but backwards – of course. Tnatsni
Elgoog has been wired in too, so you’ll instantly see results popping up as you've
submitted your search – again, everything is backwards!
If you happen to be
searching something and Elgoog has a map for it, that will appear backwards
too, flipped horizontally to the left of the results. Even the thumbnails for
all the YouTube videos that appear in the results are flipped.
Looking for an image?
You’ll find everything in reverse there too. It’s sort of hard to tell on a lot
of the thumbnails, so search something with text if you want a good look at the
madness Elgoog has to offer…
If you really want to
have some fun with this, you can always be sneaky and hop onto your co-workers’,
roommates or family members’ machines and reset their home page or default
search engine to use Com.google. Google has made it pretty easy for you to give
folks a taste of the backwards internet this year!
If anyone gets angry at you for making the switch, just point out that at least there are absolutely no ads on Elgoog – how could they be mad at you then!
Although, Google did
say that the prank had a serious message behind it – to help show how they try
to think about things from other angles…
