A portable standing desk made out of cardboard
Yesterday we had a
look at the fancy Altwork Station for all those high-intensity computer users,
today we’re moving on to a simpler desk – one made entirely out of cardboard!
New Zealand-based
Refold is attempting to change the way we work by designing a standing desk
that is foldable, portable and recyclable. Plus, the great thing is its only
$250, which is R3450, pretty cheap for a desk made from cardboard.
You assemble the desk
by folding it and locking it in place with slots in the cardboard. The desk can
hold a hefty 85kg, and it can last at least one to three years, depending on
how much you use it and how you take care of it. The desk comes in three
different sizes; small, medium and large.
To transport your desk
or store it, just fold it into a carry case. The case weighs about 6kg, which
is lightweight for a desk, and it’s pretty small to carry around, so you won’t
look too strange.
If you’re not ready to
commit to standing at your desk 24/7, then you can purchase a sitting desk with
legs. Since the desk is made out of cardboard, Refold also says you can
customize it into a canvas and decorate it how you like.
Yes, a cardboard desk
does have some obvious drawbacks. You can easily ruin it by spilling liquid or
food on it, and you’ll have to throw it away when it wears out.
However, if you’re
looking for inexpensive, easy and environmentally friendly, then Refold is a solid
option for you!
