Microsoft launches the ultimate laptop – the Surface Book
Believe it or not, the
Surface Book Laptop really exists and Microsoft wants it to be a MacBook
killer, and it’s off to a very good start.
So, it is a laptop,
but it’s also a tablet! And like most laptops it has a hinge, but the Surface
Book’s hinge is insane. It’s like a snake and it folds into place so you can
adjust the screen’s viewing angle, plus you can hit a button and it magically
detaches and turns into a tablet.
The Surface Book
itself feels pretty heavy when lifted, but when you separate the screen from
the base, the tablet part of it is quite lightweight. It is possible to pick it
up with one hand and work comfortably without straining your wrist.
Windows laptops have
always had trackpads that are completely awful, but Microsoft is breaking free
from the pack. The trackpad on the Surface Book is glass and it feels just as
good as MacBook’s trackpad. Microsoft has also added an amazing keyboard that
uses similar hardware to the 12-inch MacBook.
While it is
lightweight as a tablet, it seems like quite a monster laptop when it is
attached to the base unit. But, that’s just one small downfall compared to all
the high-end features…
- A high resolution, tech-fuelled display. The Surface Book has a 13.5 inch display that
packs 6 million pixels. It is also a touch screen, with a Surface Pen that
attaches with a magnet to the side.
- Enough power and battery to get everything
done. It is 50% faster than
the MacBook Pro, with the latest Skylake Intel Core processors paired with an
Nvidia Geforce GPU.
- The innovative hinge, detachable keyboard and
killer trackpad. One, the
keyboard is backlit and two the trackpad boasts 5 points of multi-touch
accuracy. Lastly the distinctive hinge lets you fold the screen around and hold
the laptop like a tablet.
- It works with the Surface Pen and the Surface
Dock. The new Surface Pen
comes in a variety of colours, with an all-year battery life. The Surface Dock
expands the amount of ports you get including four USB ports and Ethernet.
The Surface Book is
really Microsoft’s idea of the ultimate laptop and 2-in-1 PC. It’s packed with
performance and if it had to fight head to head with the MacBook Pro, I’d say
it would definitely win!
