Turn your arm into a keyboard using augmented reality
A Japanese electronics
maker called NEC has unveiled a unique input mechanism that will allow you to type
on your arm using augmented reality!
Yes, it is possible. The
system is called ArmKeypad and it is combined with a set of glasses that will help
to visualize the virtual keyboard, along with a smartwatch to detect how fast
you type.
The ArmKeypad was
designed to give workers a clever “hands-free” way of working while still
maintaining the ability to input text into a database. The company describes
the device as better than any other next gen input methods, such as voice
interfaces, which are difficult to use in noisy office environments.
If you take a look at
the video, the smartwatch device is shown displaying an augmented reality
component, hovering above its real-world screen, working in sync with the
keyboard.
NEC thinks that the
innovation could be used in a wide range of working environments, like
healthcare, manufacturing, documents management and even security.
No real details have
been released, such as what software and hardware aspects the system will be
using. However, the creators claim that a commercial version of the ArmKeypad
will be introduced in 2016.
