WhatsApp has just passed the 1 billion user mark!
If you think about all
your friends, family and coworkers, all of them use the instant messaging
service – WhatsApp. At this moment in time, there is no easier and cheaper way
to stay in touch! According to the WhatsApp team, its service has now surpassed
the one billion user mark.
The announcement from
WhatsApp also comes after its owner, Facebook, announced last week that it has
nearly 1.6 billion users. In case you didn’t know, Facebook bought WhatsApp in
2014 for $19 billion, which was one of the biggest tech deals of the century.
WhatsApp also scrapped
a plan last month to charge users $1 per year as it explores other business
models. However, lifetime subscriptions were available to users that activated
their phone number on WhatsApp prior to July 2013.
Here are some of
WhatsApp’s key usage figures:
§ 1 Billion monthly active users
§ 42 Billion messages sent per day
§ 1.6 Billion photos shared per day
§ 1 Billion total groups
§ 53 Languages supported
§ 250 Million videos shared per day
§ 57 Engineers and they’re still hiring
These numbers are no
surprise considering nearly one-in-seven people on Earth use WhatsApp as a
means to communicate and stay in contact with others.
