Office Tech – Past and Present
Over the past years office culture has changed more than you’d
think. Back in the day it used to be all about beehives, typewriters and
whiskey breaks, now it has evolved into BYOD and lunchtime yoga.
Office tech has evolved a great deal, read on to find out
more...
TYPING
The typewriter is seen as a collector’s item these days. In
the past copywriters used to tick away on their noisy typewriters, now they tap
away on their PCs. Once seen as a luxury to have, most people nowadays have a laptop
or desktop computer that they can use to work at home or even on the go.
CALLING
Even cordless phones are a thing of the past, these days
most offices make use of smartphones. By using a smartphone you can make calls,
send messages, organize meetings, check emails, etc. all from the palm of your
hand. Our communication capabilities have really evolved from the days of the
rotary telephone.
CONNECTING
In the 1960s switchboard operators had quite a task of
connecting calls throughout the entire office, especially in a large company.
Nowadays there are things like business phone systems that allow calls to be
directly routed to the right employee.
VIEWING
Imagine you want to present the latest pitch, but you have
to thread film through a noisy projector first. Today’s presentations are
clean, user-friendly and mobile friendly!
STORING
Hipsters would probably say briefcases are a fashionable way
to carry your files with you, however they can still be lost, stolen or
damaged. Storing your precious files on the cloud means they’ll always be safe
and can be accessed from anywhere.
COMMUNICATING
Keeping in touch with clients in
the past often meant keeping their business card on your Rolodex. Yes, it is
still a desk accessory that is used quite often; however it has been replaced
by Outlook and LinkedIn.
State-of-the-art tech from the
1960s have become kind of museum-like, however they were the start of the
current technologies we use today!
