Office Tech through the Years

These days the office is ruled by technology, gone are the days of typewriters and rotary dial phones even landlines are becoming a thing of the past.

Let’s take a look at how tech has changed through the years:

1960s – In the 1960s the office was mainly occupied by males. Most workers had the same schedules and the same desk stations, with majority of the work being done by hand with pen and paper.

1970s – When it hit the 70s, typewriters were a common necessity in the workplace. Modernized offices also had typewriters that kept noise to minimum and corded phones instead of rotary ones.

1980s – In the 1980s typewriters got replaced by desktop computers and things like the fax machine and cordless phones started making their way into offices. Demographics also become more diverse and more women started entering the workforce.

1990s – Improved technologies dominated the workplace in the 1990s, such as new desktop computers and modernized fax machines. Global business partnerships also started to grow.

2000s – With the internet, working remotely got easier to do. The 2000s also saw laptops and cell phones being used in the workplace, which meant connectivity to the office 24/7 was possible.

2017 – Tech now dominated most offices. Workers can connect with people around the globe using technology such as advanced mobile devices, software and cloud computing.
