4 Ways Tech is Making your Headaches Worse

If you ignore that pain in your head long enough, it should go away, right? Well, if it’s a small headache then hopefully, but a migraine is usually recurring and severe enough to make you feel sick or even sensitive to light. If you leave a migraine untreated it can last for up to 72 hours.

What causes a migraine is yet to be understood, but you can treat the symptoms and help prevent them with some lifestyle changes…

Our addition to technology might actually contribute a lot to headaches or migraines!

     ·         Staring at a digital screen

Staring at a digital screen, whether it is your smartphone, laptop or tablet can attribute to you experiencing headaches. This is especially true if you spend long periods of time staring at your screens.

A huge percentage of people spend at least six hours a day staring at a screen, a lot of us work behind a computer every day so it’s something that’s hard to avoid – it’s no wonder that digital eye strain is believed to be the cause of many unnecessary headaches.

Some advice would be to take breaks from whatever device it is that is hypnotizing you, or at least limit yourself to a half hour at a time. It is also a great idea to buy an anti-glare screen protector.

     ·         Straining our necks

Looking down at your phone or slumping at your desk for hours could be straining your neck and causing bad migraines, apparently the relationship between neck strain and migraines is very complex.

It is suggested that you find new ergonomics in your workplace. It could be as simple as improving  your posture, such as adjusting the height of your chair, desk or computer screen.

     ·         Constant interruption

Something that’s not to be ignored is the constant interruption that mobile devices bring to us now, it virtually impossible to get away from work and stressors.

It is believed that never taking a mental break from work makes us more stresses, which is thought to a headache trigger because it causes muscle tension.

Though it is suggested that logging off devices around 8pm is a good idea, it will probably never happen! So, it is recommended that you at least practice stress relieving methods such as yoga or meditation.

     ·         Bright light

If the last thing you do before going to sleep is staring at your phone, you may be impairing your sleep cycle, which makes your tired and more stressed during the work day.

Our bodies are supposed to start winding down and not have a bright, stimulating light in our faces. Electronic lights like your laptop charging or leaving the TV on may also keep you awake at night, it is believed that you should leave all electronics out of the bedroom and sleep in near-total darkness.

Migraines are diagnosed by how often they occur and for how long, there is no absolute cure, but you can fight the symptoms by cutting down on your tech addiction.
