The Automobile as we know it will soon be dead

Lately there has been a massive amount of effort to kill the car as we know it. Among them are efforts to make a tiny self-driving car that looks like a box, and that people would probably be too embarrassed to be seen in.

There is no doubt that the car that we know will soon be dead and gone. The real question is whether we will hate or love the replacement!

Google is probably the most well-known technology company on the planet, and they have taken the self-driving car one step further and made it look like a miniature four-wheel pod. It’d kind of like if you took the largely unsuccessful Smart car and tried your best to make it as unattractive as possible. It is seriously ugly.

When we dream of the future and how automobiles will look, we often see sleek, rocket-like designs that will be cool to be seen in! Google’s self-driving prototype car is definitely not anything we had in mind.

On the other hand, there is a car that was created by current technology that looks amazing, is super-fast and is really safe. It is the Blade car created by Divergent Technologies and built by California Research and Design.

The Blade is actually a 3D-Printed Supercar! It used 3D-printed parts and when you sit inside, it kind-of feels like you’re in a fighter jet!

The advantage of the 3D-printed approach is you actually could build highly customized short-run cars, and it is the polar opposite of the Google car concept. Rather than a hideous looking little car you would be embarrassed to be seen in, you get the Blade which is still very frugal, safe and greener.

It seems that eventually we will give up automobiles and let them drive us, but the hope is that we end up with something amazing that blends technology and beauty.
