How to get your PC ready for Windows 10

It is basically Christmas day for Windows users!

Today, many of us will be treated to a whole new operating system, the famous Windows 10. There is a lot to love about the new OS. It’s cool, it’s sleek and it has a whole bunch of new additions. Even the much loved Start menu is back!

You are probably excited to upgrade to Windows 10 now, but there are a few things you need to keep in mind before doing so. Here are a few tips to get your system ready for the big step…

1. First, back it up
Upgrading is never an exact science, things can go wrong! So, make sure you back up your system beforehand.

2. How can you get it?
Only users with Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 will be able to get the upgrade. A pop-up will appear, and you’ll need to follow the prompts. The installation will take about an hour. If you are using an older computer and hope to get Windows 10 on a new device this week, you’re out of luck! Its only available as a free upgrade.

3. Can your machine handle it?
Even if you meet the requirements to get the upgrade, you will need to make sure your computer is healthy enough to handle the install, and has enough storage to complete it.

4. Why would you even want it?
Windows 10 is the first major update since Windows 8, which was quite a huge failure and ignored by many users. Windows 10 has many great features – live tiles on the Start menu, the digital assistant Cortana and its latest software will support Xbox One integration! Let’s not forget about Microsoft Edge, the company’s replacement for internet explorer.

Although you may have to wait for your free upgrade to arrive, it will be very much worth the wait!
