The New Version of Google Glass is all Work!
Google Glass is back,
but it’s not really meant for you!
Google has been
quietly distributing their new glasses exclusively to businesses, like
factories and hospitals. The company is hoping that the glasses will be
received better in the workplace than it was in the consumer market.
The new device is
called the Enterprise Edition and it will look very much like the original Google
Glass. However, it has quite a few upgrades over the consumer version. For starters,
it is hinged, so now they can be folded just like normal glasses! It also has a
new Intel processor, a larger, thinner display prism and improved wireless
connectivity, as well as a vertical and horizontal prism adjustment.
It also touts a
longer-lasting battery pack that attaches to the headset through magnets.
According to the Wall Street Journal, it will be at least a year before we see a new consumer version
of the device, so hopefully that is enough time for them to create something
decent this time.
Google has never given
up on Glass as an enterprise device, despite putting the consumer version of
the device on hold for a while. It is true though, that the workplace is ideal
for wearables, especially the new Google Glass.
The Enterprise Edition
is expected to cost well below the previous Google Glass, and if everything
goes according to plan, businesses can expect to see them later this year!
