6 things you should remove from your computer right now!
Is your computer or
laptop running a little slow? No you don’t have to immediately take it in to
the IT store – you just need to give the little guy some much needed digital
R&R.
Here are six things
The Computer Guyz recommend you take off your computer straight away.
>> Documents on
your Desktop
The number of items on
your desktop directly reflects your mental state. But there’s another reason to
sort files into folders. Computers actually slow down when you save too many
docs to the main screen because they automatically generate previews for each
and every one of them. Save those documents where they belong or, tuck them in
a folder somewhere.
>> Old Operating
Systems
Sure, software update
prompts are annoying, but if you don’t update you could cause your computer to
run super slow on an outdated and unsupported OS. So, the next time a new OS is
up for download, do yourself a favour and click “OK.”
>> Any Duplicate
Files
Yes, this task may
feel really time-consuming, but it is less daunting than you think if you just
find a reliable app that efficiently scans your machine for file dupes. How
else would you know that you’ve actually got three copies of your family’s 2010
vacation to Thailand?
>> Old and Unused
Apps
Tread very carefully
here. If you haven’t used a program in over a year, that is probably a sign
that it is just talking up unnecessary space on your computer or laptop.
>> Your Emails
Your goal: To achieve
inbox zero. But it feels like you never ever have the time to sort and file.
New plan – great a folder called “2015 Email” and put every message you
received during that year in there. This will save you space and also make your
archives more searchable.
>>Your Facebook
Friends
Okay, so this one is
not technically taking up space, but come on how good does it feel to shape
your Facebook friends to only include people you genuinely care about? That
random guy you met on that cruise 3 years ago – delete!
It’s time to put all
those unwanted bits and bobs on your computer or laptop into the recycle bin!
