Smartphone-addicted child chops off his own finger!

We hear a lot of stories about China and the relationship with surgery and the latest gadgets. Usually desperate individuals will sell their own organs in order to fund an iPhone or an iPad purchase. Then there are the gaming problems, with people dying by choosing to play non-stop for days and then collapsing. However, this incident involved a combination of these things and an 11 year old boy.

Smartphone-addicted children are becoming a common, every day thing. As soon as they wake up their phones are being used to check social media, play games and surf the web. In this case, the child woke up and instantly grabbed his phone and refused to put it down even when he had an argument with his mother. Later, he had another argument with his father over the same problem.

The arguments obviously left the child very, very frustrated, because the enraged boy went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and cut off his own index finger! This may have been a rebellious act, but it’s likely that he’ll look back and see how stupid it was to do.

The boy was rushed to hospital with his severed finger where surgeons spent 3 hours reattaching it. However, the surgery may not be successful as the blood vessels in an 11 year olds finger are extremely difficult to work with. Only time will tell is the smartphone-addicted kid will get his finger back.

Index fingers, although not essential for smartphone use, are one of the most heavily used digits when it comes to interacting with a touchscreen. If the surgery is unsuccessful it shouldn’t stop the boy from continuing to use his smartphone, but it could make playing games or using multi touch a bit more difficult.
