This amazing emulator can bring back Windows 95 to your PC!
August this year will
mark 20 years since the Windows 95 operating system was launched, bringing
happiness all around the world.
Now you can relive
those days with a Windows 95 emulator that runs in your browser. Built by a student
at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, the emulator uses Emscripten and
DOSBox to give you that authentic ’95 experience.
According to the
student, Andrea Faulds, she started the project for the sake of nostalgia and
because it was just plain fun. It will give users a chance to experience the
birth of now well-known Windows features including the start menu and the task
bar.
However, she stated
that the emulator is strictly for educational purposes and went on to say that Windows
controls all copyright to its software. Faulds can’t guarantee that when you
use the emulator that you won’t be infringing its rights.
While Microsoft no
longer sells Windows 95 as a retail product, or still sells licenses or support
for it, it is still very much protected by copyright law.
So, if Windows happens
to send a cease and desist letter to Faulds, she’ll have to take the emulator
down!
