Yes, Apple’s New Design Book is just a BOOK!

First of all, if you are going to sell a book with just pictures of Apple products for about R4000.00 ($300), then it at least has to have magic powers or be able to transform into a new MacBook or something!

Oh wow, it has ‘’special” paper – is that really a reason for it to cost an arm and a leg?

This new book, which Apple designed, shows 20 years of Apple products via hundreds of photographs. Next to the photos is some info about the materials and techniques Apple used. Apparently they dedicated the whole thing to Steve Jobs.

The company announced that this state-of-the-art book took a shocking EIGHT years to be developed. Sorry, but I never realised snapping photographs of 450 Apple products would take so long? It must be the “specially milled, custom-dyed paper with gilded matte silver edges, using eight colour separations and low-ghost ink.”

Can we please go back to the fact that this product is just a book?

Jony Ive, Apple’s chief design officer said: “The idea of genuinely trying to make something great for humanity was Steve’s motivation from the beginning, and it remains both our ideal and our goal as Apple looks to the future. This archive is intended to be a gentle gathering of many of the products the team has designed over the years. We hope it brings some understanding to how and why they exist, while serving as a resource for students of all design disciplines.”

Yes, students have bundles of cash to spend on a useless picture book, when they could actually spend their money on something that teaches them something important.
