Is that Place Wheelchair Accessible? Google Maps can help!
It can be tough finding out if a certain location is
wheelchair friendly, especially if you have to spend a fair amount of time
studying Google Street View.
However, you don’t have to worry so much anymore because Google Maps has become even more advanced; it now tells you if there is wheelchair
accessibility!
How did they do this? Well, thanks to Google Drive’s product
manager and users who answered questions about the locations they visited,
there is enough information about the access in certain locations to allow
Google to display it as an amenity on a location page.
Unfortunately the listings on Google Maps are only available
in the US right now, but you can expect to see a larger coverage pretty soon.
This new feature could mean the difference between visiting
that awesome new restaurant or having to change your plans and go somewhere
else. Think about it, anyone who has issues climbing up stairs can benefit from
this, such as families who need to push prams or elderly people with mobility
scooters.
