Chinese city creates first cellphone addicts sidewalk lane

Have you ever been in a rush to get somewhere, a meeting or an appointment and all of a sudden you’re stuck behind that guy moving at a snail’s pace, why is he walking so slowly? His eyes are glued to his cellphone and he’s probably tweeting about his boring day or posting a picture of his latest meal on Instagram. If you live in the Chinese city of Chongqing, this situation would pretty much never happen to you.

This city in South West China has created the world’s very first cellphone lane, made specifically for people who simply cannot unglue their eyes from their precious cellphone. As you walk down the pavement you will see the lane split into two, on one side is the “Cellphones” lane where you can update your Facebook status and walk as slowly as you want and on the other side is the “No Cellphones” lane dedicated to people walking the normal pace and keeping track of where they are going.

This unique sidewalk was probably painted for everyone’s safety, because we don’t want anyone falling down stairs or walking into oncoming traffic, smartphone-related pedestrian injuries seem to be becoming a big problem. One huge “shock” was when the city stenciled the markings on the pavement the cellphone addicts didn't even notice the signs!
