Mac vs PC: Intuition or Practicality
So you want to buy your very first computer, you've never
used a computer system before and you have to decide between a Mac or PC? Many
people have their favourite that they are comfortable using and admitting that
the other product is better than theirs would be torture, but for a first time computer
user you need to think about which one suits you best, and what’s easiest for
you to use.
Try and keep one simple question in mind - which computer
system is easiest to use and learn? Both the Apple and Windows systems are very
different in the way that they work but they do have a similarity, they both
use visual depictions like icons, tools and windows to operate your programs
and files.
There is not definite way to determine which is easier to
use, both systems have their advantages and disadvantages and are complex for
different people for different reasons. The Mac in general is easier to understand;
it uses non-technical language, a one-button mouse system and the dock at the
bottom of the screen uses large, colourful icons and makes most-used programs easy
to access.
On the other hand some people may feel uncomfortable using
the Apple system, the keyboard shortcuts, window layout and its lack of
right-click button function can be very frustrating. The Mac laptop touchpad
also don’t have any physical buttons, you have to use the entire pad to “click”
something, and it’s probably simpler for a first time user to have buttons
below or above the pad.
Now you have to make the choice between the Mac or PC, if
you look at the facts and ask yourself again – which computer system is easiest
to use and learn? You should consider an Apple Mac, they are easier to use but
keep in mind that they are also so much more expensive than a Windows PC.
