The Model 01 Mechanical Keyboard
Those who do a lot of
typing throughout the day know that it can put quite a lot of strain on your
wrists and on your entire body. Physical exercise can be rough on your if you
are doing the motions wrong, the same goes for sitting at a computer and typing
all day long. If you are tired of having an aching back, sore wrists and
tingling fingers, then it’s about time to upgrade your setup…
Choosing a keyboard in
this day and age actually means making a lifestyle choice, and there are ergonomic
alternatives to simply choosing a traditional straight keyboard, but not
everyone find them attractive. The people from Keyboardio are hoping consumers
will choose the Model 01 mechanical keyboard with a sleek, sophisticated
design.
The Model 01’s gentle
sloping shape that looks almost like a butterfly shouldn’t fool you, as it is
designed to help you type with lightning speed without compromising your body
over time. It is fit with mechanical switches and cool LED back lighting, and
they boast on their Kickstarter page that once you rest your palms on two
blocks of polished maple wood “you won’t want to go back to another flat,
plastic box.”
There are 64 key caps
and they have been individually sculpted to help you know where your fingers
should be headed next. The design of the keyboard is made to work naturally
with the position of our hands as we type – because they’re curved, one does
not need to hitch their hand at the wrist to angle them forward as with
traditional keyboards.
Instead of your poor
pinky being forced to do all the heavy lifting, there are more buttons laod out
for your thumb and one for your palm that will act as your function button,
giving you access to a wholly different layout which includes a mouse!
You will even be able
to customize the Model 01 as you see fit, and if you don’t plan on using the
QWERTY layout, blank key caps are also available for those who use a different
layout.
If you put down an
investment in the project, Keyboardio promises to deliver one of its Model 01
keyboards with source code and a screwdriver by April 2016.
