3D printed gummy candies that you can eat!

Have you ever thought to yourself, 3D printing is not that important to you, well would you think differently if there were 3D printed gummy sweets that you could eat?

A German candy company called Katjes unveiled the first ever 3D printer for gummies in Berlin on Friday. The company claims that it is the very first 3D printer for food that is available to the public.

The 3D printer is appropriately called the Magic Candy Factory. It looks like a fancy 3D printer on the outside, but when you get close, you’ll notice it is printing gooey, delicious treats – gummy sweets! That’s right, the same stuff those cute little gummy bears are made of.

The magical candies take about five minutes to make and customers get to choose from ten fruity flavours and colours, with a handful of rainbow selections that let you combine multiple colours. Yes, they aren’t cheap gummy sweets, but can you really put a price on your own personlised 3D printed candy?

A variety of animal shapes are available, or customers can choose different letter shapes too. Consumers can also suggest new shapes to be made with the Magic Candy Factory on the company’s site.

While this definitely isn’t the first 3D printer for food, this seems to be the first that’s out in the real world making immediately edible food. And even better, immediately edible gummy sweets!

The Magic Candy Factory prints out Sour Power strings of candy, which, when layered make 3D shapes. The gummies that come out are gluten free and vegan, so if you’re into all that jazz, you’ll be more than happy. However, that doesn’t mean they’re healthy, these are still gummies and while they are bad for your teeth and filled with sugar, they still taste yummy.

The ultimate goal of the Magic Candy Factory is to be available for use wherever families and children are. This includes places such as shopping malls, amusement parks and many other places.
