7 Simple Ways to Unplug from Technology
You know you should be
more involved in real life and less involved in Facebook and Instagram, but
what could be better than getting a new comment on your Instagram picture? Yes,
proper human communication is better!
Don’t be one of those
cellphone or tech addicts, use these seven simple ways to help you put down
your phone.
LEAVE THE DEVICE AT HOME
If you don’t trust
yourself not to check your phone constantly, then the next time you’re going
out to dinner or to the movies, leave it at home! Yes, purposely leave it at
home, maybe you could convince yourself that it was an accident, either way,
you won’t be tempted to sneak a peek at your inbox.
LOOK FOR PLACES WITHOUT SERVICE
Instead of trolling
all over the internet for a hip little cottage with super-fast WiFi, search for
a hip, little cottage in the middle of nowhere that doesn’t have any service at
all. Sounds like something out of a horror movie, but it’ll do you some good.
NO
SCREEN TIME BEFORE BED
It’s a fact that
staring at a glowing screen before you go to bed actually confuses your brain’s
chemicals and makes it harder to get that good night’s rest. Make a deal with
yourself that once you enter your bedroom to put your phone away and rather
read a book, do a crossword or whatever else floats your boat.
DON’T TEXT YOUR PARTNER CONSTANTLY
Promise yourself that
you won’t spend the entire day texting back and forth with your husband or
boyfriend. You’ll be less obsessed with your phone and have more to talk about
when you get to see each other in person.
KEEP YOUR CHARGER SOMEWHERE AWKWARD
Whether it’s in the
basement, the guestroom or all the way on top of the fridge, you will be less
tempted to keep checking your Facebook or Twitter if your phone or electronic
device is somewhere inconvenient.
USE A SELF-SAVING TOOL
You know it’s bad when
you need technology to save yourself from technology! The app called Checky is
quite helpful; it monitors how often you check your phone and shames you when
you go above your limit.
MAKE A “DO NOT DISTURB” TIME
It’s a feature that
not many people know about, and it can totally change your life. All you have
to do is go to your “Settings”, press “Do Not Disturb” and “Scheduled”. From there
you can pick a time for when the alerts should stop. If you don’t know the
messages are there, you won’t be tempted to keep checking.
It’s time to PUT.
DOWN. YOUR. PHONE.
