Outdated tech your kids will never understand
Technology evolves so
fast these days that even a gadget from five or ten years ago are now seen as
old fashioned. Take a look at this list of 10 outdated gadgets that your
children won’t understand…
Walkman – This portable gadget used to be the only way to listen to music when
you were out and about, well as long as you had a few spare batteries and some
flimsy foam earphones! The old school Walkman played tapes that you had no way
of choosing what song to listen to. You had to turn rewind and turn them over,
often leading to the tape unraveling and becoming chewed up.
Discman – One of the most irritating things about a discman was the way the CD
would skip if you were walking fast or running. CDs themselves are an outdated
gadget that your children won’t understand, the thought of having physical
music instead of digital now seems quite old fashioned.
Nintendo Game Boy – Compared to video games now, the Nintendo is
incredibly simple with a strange green-grey screen that will confuse any child
into thinking it is some form of prehistoric entertainment. This outdated
gadget has been replaced with consoles that play realistic games that are nothing
like the games of the past.
Typewriter – The typewriter is one of the oldest word processors that is actually
still available today. This outdated gadget is something your kids will never
understand, they’ll never be able to imagine a time before computers, mobiles
and tablets!
Floppy Disks – The size and shape of the floppy disk is
enough to confuse most kids. The thin black square disks were used to transfer
data from one computer to another, but unfortunately they only held 1.44mb. The
floppy disk is definitely a gadget that will never be making a comeback.
Rotary Telephones – Even if you still have a landline, your
children will probably not know anything about the rotary telephone. The idea of
having to insert your finger and move the dial to each number is seems so
outdated now that buttons and touchscreens are an everyday thing.
Calculators – Why on earth would you need a gadget that only does sums and nothing
else? Well, in the old days the modern calculator was a genius gadget. The
calculators these days have evolved to do scientific calculations, but even
these are giving way to smartphones which can do all the calculations and more.
Film Compact Cameras – Yes, film is still in use today, but mostly by
older professional photographers and hipsters. Not being able to see the photo
you just took is difficult to understand, plus seeing developed negatives is probably
even more confusing. Back in the day, not knowing what the picture looked like
was part of the fun, now it’s just an annoyance.
Nokia 3210 – If you didn’t own a Nokia 3210 in your life, then you definitely know
someone who did! This phone, like the Game Boy is an outdated gadget that will
make your children wonder why there are no colours on the screen. The smartphones
of today should take a leaf out of the 3210’s book and learn how to be
practically indestructible.
Box TVs – There was a time when no TV screens were flat, and they all had deep
tube type screens that were big and difficult to fit anywhere. Thankfully these
outdated screens have been replaced by flat screens which offer a much better
picture and are much more convenient to fit on a table or wall.
How many of these
outdated tech gadgets did you own? And do you still have any stuck at the back
of your cupboard?
