How to charge your phone with a campfire
There is nothing better
than just getting away from it all and enjoying a weekend in nature, until your
phone suddenly dies and you feel as if your world will end.
If you feel like it’s impossible
for you to survive a weekend in the woods without your digital devices, then
FlameStower can help you out!
FlameStower is a
small, portable charger that uses the heat from a campfire to juice up your
devices. It looks kind of like a flat cheese grater, and weighs about as much
as 280 grams plus it fits easily into your bag.
So, how does it work?
FlameStower unfolds into a stand that has a silicone reservoir for water and a
metal blade that you stick into the fire, it uses some pretty cool basic
science to keep your devices powered up. Connect the USB port to your device,
fill the water cup halfway and then stick the blade into the flames. Don’t worry,
it’s not as complicated as it seems, you don’t have to be Bear Grylls to do it!
The heat from the campfire
or even from the flame on a portable stove can convert into a thermoelectric
circuit. This means that the temperature difference between the fire and the
water creates electric power. Twenty minutes of charging will get you about 40
minutes of power.
What could be a more
efficient use of your time than powering up your phone while braaing some
sosaties or toasting marshmallows?
