Droneboarding is the new craze!

People are coming up with all sorts of crazy sports using drones, including drone racing. But a new one called “droneboarding” might be the most ridiculous, yet completely awesome idea involving drones we have ever seen.

Droneboarding is kind of like kiteboarding, but with a snowboard instead of a surfboard. And instead of being pulled around by a powerkite, you’re pulled by a drone!

So, in the video there’s a lot going on, let’s break things down. Did the battery on the drone in the video last long? Probably not. Did the kid go very fast? He is barely moving. Is this a great idea? Yes, yes, yes.

The consumer drone that’s shown pulling the kid on a snowboard definitely isn’t strong enough to pull an adult, but one day in the future they will be. Think of all the possibilities! Imagine a swarm of drones pulling people and things across the snow. Sled dogs could be out of work in the future!

Using a consumer grade drone to tow people on snow or water makes about as much sense as strapping a giant fan to someone’s back while they’re paragliding, but people do it anyway and it looks like great fun! And while drones are weak, they’re getting stronger.
