Real life bonsai trees that levitate in mid-air!
Thanks to a new
startup, Japanese animator, Hayao Miyazaki’s real life bonsai-style trees just
got a lot more otherworldly!
Air Bonsai is a new
bonsai-style miniature plant that hovers and spins over a magnetic base. It’ll
make you feel pretty Zen-like as you stare at this amazing plant that feels
like it’s from outta space.
The Air Bonsai was
launched by a team based in the Kyushu region of Japan, and the makers are
quick to point out that – “the actual plants we will be sending to you is for
example “matsu”, a pine tree common in the US.”
But as you can see in
the video, here, that barely makes a difference as the effect is still stunning
enough to keep you staring for ages.
If you’d rather plant
a different kind of levitating plant, the makers have a kit suited for that
purpose as well. So, in case you were wondering, despite the magical hovering,
these plants are 100% real and will need regular watering and care – they’re
not just props.
With its standard base
measuring just 6cm in diametre, the circular moss ball base hovers around 2cm
above the magnetic base.
So how much does this
levitating bonsai set cost? The cheapest option costs 200 Dollars for the basic
Air Bonsai set, which includes the “energy base”, AC adapter and the circular
moss ball that supports the plant. Another version, which costs 30 Dollars more,
uses a lava stone as the plant base.
While levitating
objects is nothing new, marrying such a dynamic with an organic component is truly
a stroke of genius.
Will it work as shown
in the video? We can’t be certain, but those who supported the Kickstarter
project will find out when the first Air Bonsai products begin shipping in
August this year.
