Why cloud matters more than platforms

If you stop thinking about the concerns over privacy and security and put them aside, it’s clear that cloud is the future of computing. It seems that cloud is way more important now than traditional platforms, but what makes it so much better and why?

Data is more useful in the cloud; it can be accessed from any location, using any device, making it so much easier for teams, businesses and colleagues to work together on an activity or project. It’s quite easy to see cloud has benefits, companies can control their investments to avoid spending a lot and only pay for what is needed, and cloud is also the most effective way to create tighter links with customers.

The cloud offers some distinct advantages over normal, traditional platforms: In the cloud any failed hardware can be easily upgraded or quickly swapped out and none of this will have any impact on the end user.

Some of the major computing players are actually investing in cloud, like Amazon, Microsoft, Apple, Google and many others, but there are always some Pros and Cons to take into account:

CONS
PROS

- Bandwidth is limited and expensive
- Disk space is expensive
- SQL storage expensive
- Lower performance in many cases
- Lack of control

- No hardware to buy/maintain
- Unlimited instance scaling
- Unlimited disk scaling
- Pay for what you use
- Dynamic/elastic scaling
- Resilient and redundant

Yes, cloud is cheap and easy to install, but its greatest advantage is that the services are built on interaction and feedback from customers, which is very important! Many clouds include templates that are designed for you and they include the latest processes and practices, keeping people and businesses up-to-date.

Some people may say they don’t have a good reason to move to the cloud, but cloud platforms are evolving so quickly that its becoming hard to say no to them. There is definitely a lot to learn when you manage and use in the cloud, but you cannot ignore it if it’s simply the best option today.
